A modern reinterpretation of the classic old fashioned glass, designed for whiskey and bourbon lovers who enjoy their spirit chilled on the rocks (or those neat drinkers who want a little heft in their pour). And for those who revel in the crafted cocktail, the tumbler features a core innovation. Inside the glass, extruded chevrons radiate from the center, offering friction to grip ingredients for muddled-in-glass drinks.

Foregoing the ornamentation of cut crystal, the entire surface of the tumbler, inside and out, is born in a single blinding moment of machine-pressing the molten non-leaded crystal into a complex five-part mold. The result is a pure expression of material and form that elevates the traditional lowball glass to new heights, with geometric facets and edges blending organically into curved surfaces that fascinate the eyes and play with the sense of touch.

The tumbler is available in two standard sizes: a 250 ml (or OF) and a 350 ml (or DOF). Which size is right for you will depend on how heavy you like your glass and the intended use. Traditionally speaking, the DOF (or double old fashioned glass) is called for when a drink requires larger amounts of ice or is composed of a greater volume of lower alcohol content. But we know some folks just like a big glass in their hand.

Hailed by numerous publications as one of the best bourbon glasses, the Rauk Heavy Tumbler makes a perfect addition to your home bar or a thoughtful gift for the whiskey enthusiast in your life.

Rauk Heavy Tumbler

Pretty. Heavy.

I thought about buying a couple of the Rauk Heavy Tumblers in 350mL size for ages and ages. It was the lack of being able to hold one before buying that held me back. Eventually I did buy them, and I love them.

The weight and the crystal clarity are a sensory delight to see and feel, which adds extra dimensions to the enjoyment of a whisk(e)y, or whatever else takes your fancy. The ridges in the bottom of the glass catch the light beautifully and do indeed also work very well for muddling ingredients, should you be so inclined.

The large tumbler accommodates a 5cm diameter ice sphere nicely and if you make a really clear sphere and put it in an old fashioned, the visual effect looking through the ice to the bottom of the glass is amazing.

Its quite hefty, at about 800g empty, and around 1kg if you have a highball type drink (volume of a 5cm sphere is about 65mL, leaving 290mL drink volume, which is about what you get in a highball). So it’s probably not the sort of glass you’d want to stand around holding for a long time. It’s a glass to sit with and admire as you savour your dram.

Which heavy tumbler is right for you?

Crystal tumblers (non-leaded like ours included) are hefty objects. They certainly make their presence felt in the hand. The original Heavy Tumbler is the 250 ML size; it is compact but by no means slight. The larger, 350 ML Heavy Tumbler is a scaled up sibling; it is suitable for those with a large, firm grip.

As for the color of your tumbler, that's largely down to personal preference. A clear crystal tumbler is a thing of brilliance. But a smokey grey glass is modern and elegant, and we venture that our matte black, mirrored interior tumbler is utterly unique in the glassware world.
